KAMAS, Utah (ABC4) – When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Airbnb hosts received updated cleaning protocols, but Pepper Martin, who had previously cleaned to the new standards, did not have to change at all its routine.
“It was nice to have Airbnb kind of validate that, like okay, we were already cleaning all of this stuff and resetting it all, so we were already doing the COVID-19 cleanup ahead of time,” she says.
Pepper Martin, originally from Utah, recently secured a coveted place in the world of Airbnb (a platform that allows people to rent out their private space for travelers to stay there). Not only is she a Superhost, but she was recently named Utah’s Most Hospitable Airbnb Host.
And Airbnb has set the bar pretty high. In order to identify its most welcoming guests, the company only considered those who had received only five stars in the areas of cleanliness, check-in and communication. They also had to have a minimum of 100 reviews. If more than one host met these criteria, the tiebreaker went to the host with the most reviews.
Picture this: a quaint private cabin in the woods nestled on the edge of a clear, tree-lined river. Mountains rise in the distance. Lounge chairs surround a fireplace standing next to the river, providing a perfect view of it all.
If you’re careful you might see the deer family that frequents the area, bald eagles, hawks, and even the occasional moose provide a glimpse of the area’s wildlife.
The private riverside cabin is located in Kamas, can accommodate up to two people at a time, and costs $ 189 per night.
And while it’s only a 25-minute drive from Park City and about an hour’s drive from Salt Lake City, you’d never know, Martin told ABC4.com.
“Because it’s so private and in the mountains and you’re on the river, you feel like you’re somewhere else completely. Like you’ve been driving for hours or catching a plane somewhere, ”she says. “It’s not like you’ve just taken a quick drive. “
According to Pepper Martin, the chalet was built in the 90s and has a quaint chalet feel. Settled on the property where she grew up, she decided to buy the property and the two existing chalets in 2016.
“This is the guesthouse that I turned into an Airbnb, and I just wanted to do it to share because it’s such a beautiful property and right on the river. So, just to be able to share this with other people since I can’t catch up all the time to hang out, ”she explains. “I just wanted to do it again where I grew up so people can enjoy it.”
Music lovers will be interested to hear that singer Dean Martin even vacationed at the property. (Pepper is the esteemed singer’s granddaughter.)
But what really sets this property apart are the details.
“We really focus on our equipment that we put there, so we want people to be able to just show up. Sometimes it happens where people are like, oh, we’re driving and we want to stop for the night. And like great last minute bookings like that – we like being able to take them, ”says Martin.
And that’s good news for visitors who didn’t come prepared. The cabin has pretty much everything they could take with them anyway. Shower gel, shampoo, kitchen utensils, plates, bowls, olive oil, salt and pepper, washer and dryer, to name a few.
“So you don’t have to like to bring a whole lot of stuff. And I think it’s really nice, like not having to worry about your luggage when you come, ”she says.
Martin says amenities and his deep cleaning process are two things that make an exceptionally good host.
“It’s just me doing the housework so I’m very, very thorough and I have a really long, long checklist that I go through every time,” she says. “I’m just very clean, I check everything. You never know what a guest has used or touched.
Blackout blinds complete the cabin’s tranquil atmosphere, making it perfect for sleeping on a sunny morning, taking an afternoon nap, or going to bed early for the night. The cabin is also equipped with a TV connected to WIFI so you can watch your favorite Netflix shows.
But what clearly sets Martin apart as Utah’s most hospitable Airbnb host is his drive to make specific accommodations for guests that make their stay memorable. And again, it comes down to the details.
For example, in the summer it offers beer and wine tastings to interested visitors. This comes with an additional charge. Guests are welcome to descend into the main courtyard for this and are left to enjoy drinks and appetizers.
The river that runs through the property, and is part of the upper reaches of the Provo River, contains all kinds of trout you can think of and is open to fishing, Martin says. The cost of fishing is included in the price of the stay.
“However, if you are not an experienced fisherman, we have some really awesome fly fishing guides who work from a few different fly shops and like fly clubs, so we can connect all of our guests with them, ”she said. . “We can get all the poles and all the equipment, all the good stuff, rent them. It is definitely a hotspot for fly fishing.
If someone comes to stay at the chalet for a special occasion like a birthday, she will be happy to personalize the experience.
“We can work with you with whatever you want to do. If you are coming for your birthday and want a couples massage, we can bring in the masseurs and set up the beds, something like that. Because we have the property and the space to do it, we can do a lot of really cool fun stuff like that.
