Ben Lomond, Ogden Boys’ Basketball Set for State Playoff Rematch; 3A/2A brackets released | News, Sports, Jobs

Next on the Prep Basketball Playoff File: Iron HORSE Part 3.

The Ben Lomond and Ogden High men’s basketball teams learned Saturday that they will meet for the third time this season, this Saturday, Feb. 19, at 1 p.m. at Ben Lomond High School in the second round of the state playoffs. , while the UHSAA announced brackets for the 3A and 2A state tournaments.

Both teams earned a first-round bye. Ben Lomond (13-8) is the No. 6 seed while Ogden (9-12) is No. 11.

The Tigers were hovering around the No. 12-13 spots and, although they lost both games last week, enough happened around them to put them at No. 11, which means that ‘they will miss a first-round home game which is awarded to the nos. 12-16 seed.

This season, the home side have won both games between BLHS and OHS: Ben Lomond won 43-40 at home and Ogden won 61-52 at home. The playoff game has a quarterfinal berth at Weber State on the line.

Overall, four of the top six 3A men’s seeds come from Region 13. Layton Christian (16-7), after an undefeated season in regional play, is the No. 1 seed and Morgan (14 -7) is No. 5. LCA will host winner Emery/Providence Hall at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, while Morgan will host Canyon View or Delta.

In the 3A women’s tournament, Region 13 champion Morgan (15-7) is the No. 5 seed, has a first-round bye and will host a second-round matchup at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18 against No. 12 South Summit, which the Trojans have beaten twice in regional play.

Layton Christian’s women’s team is No. 6 and will host No. 11 Canyon View, also on Friday. Ogden (6-16) is No. 18 and will face No. 15 Juab in the first round, which is played at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15.

Ben Lomond (3-18) is the No. 20 seed and will visit Delta in the first round.

Only one team in the region has a first-round home playoff, and that’s the St. Joseph women’s team in 2A. The No. 15 Jayhawks (8-8) host No. 18 Waterford at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15. The Utah Military Academy women’s team is No. 20 and visits Enterprise in the first round.

On the 2A boys side, St. Joseph and UMA are both on the road on Wednesday, February 16. The No. 19 Jayhawks (4-14) visit No. 14 North Sevier while the No. 23 Thunderbirds (0-11) go to Kanab.
