Esteban Jaramillo leads Utah State Golf on Day 1 of CSUN Bill Cullum Invitational

VALENCIA, California. – The Utah State golf team is in second place after the first two rounds of the 25th Bill Cullum Invitational hosted by CSUN on Monday at the Oaks Club in Valencia.

First-year student Esteban Jaramillo was the clubhouse leader after the first round as he shot his career best 6 Under 66 – the lowest first round score by an Aggie since Colten Cordingley also shot a 66 at the 2019 Bill Cullum Invitational.

Additionally, Jaramillo’s 66 is the lowest score a Utah freshman has had in all rounds since Hayden Eckert shot a 65 in 2016-17 at the Notre Dame Gridiron Classic, who also competed. in his third career tournament.

Jaramillo posted a score of 3 of 75 in the second round to finish at 3 under for the day, good enough for second place.

As a team, the Aggies sit second in the 12-team standings at 9 of 585, six strokes behind CSUN. Cal State Fullerton is third at 18, followed by Utah Valley (+21) and Weber State (+23).

Starting his day on the 11th par-3, 141-yard hole, Jaramillo opened with three straight birdies. He had eight birdies in total, including three consecutive fifth through seventh holes in the first round.

Second year Javier Vazquez is tied for sixth at 1-over after rounds 72 and 73, while the seniors Cameron Tucker is tied for 11th at 3 after rounds of 75 and 72. Also for Aggies, senior Jesse Henderson is tied for 32nd at 8-over (75-77) and second year Purin Yingpisit is tied for 73rd at 21 (80-85).

Playing as an individual and participating in his first career tournament, redshirt sophomore Spencer panter is tied for 47th at 12 (77-79).

The final round of the Bill Cullum Invitational takes place on Tuesday.
