Lion Links: 4/1/21 – The land of manes

Greetings, Mane Landers. Hope you all are well on this April Fool’s Day. Buckle up and get ready for these no-fun people who are sure to pull some sort of gag today. While you wait and see what kind of pranks your friends, family, and / or coworkers have in store for you today, let’s jump straight to the links.

Orlando vs. Cincinnati Faded Scrimmage

The Lions were on the verge of improving their already strong 3-1-0 pre-season record last night against FC Cincinnati when Mother Nature stepped in and ruined everything. With Orlando City leading 1-0 on a goal from Homegrown back Michael Halliday, the weather turned bad and the game was put on hold. The Orlando City Academy U-23 team suffered the same fate, with the Young Lions having their game interrupted around the 13th minute without a score. It might be preseason, but the weather in Florida is in mid-season shape.

Orlando City players proud to receive COVID-19 vaccines

The city of Orlando and the pride of Orlando players and staff should receive their first doses of the coronavirus vaccine Monday at Exploria stadium.

“Orlando City partner Orlando Health will help distribute the vaccine for the club. Once employees receive their vaccines, eligible family members of players and staff will receive vaccines at the stadium on Tuesday. “

“This means – depending on the version of the vaccine they receive – club employees could be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus by mid-May. “

If the players don’t get the Johnson & Johnson shot, they can get their second shot at the start of the NWSL Challenge Cup and MLS season. Most people report some type of second-round side effects, which could prove to be problematic. Time will tell what happens, but at least things appear to be improving when it comes to the pandemic. Hopefully players will get by without major side effects.

Orlando Pride Astra Advertising Kit

The Orlando Pride has released an absolutely gorgeous kit for the coming season. The idol of a jersey, called their kit “Ad Astra”, will be the team principal for the NWSL 2021 and 2022 campaigns. In addition, the new jersey and a set of balls to use in a match have been projected into space to symbolize the ambition of women’s football reaching new heights. The space balloon will be used in a match.

Orlando City SC and Orlando Pride CEO Alex Leitao praised the jersey itself, but more importantly, what it means more than anything.

“While this jersey itself is special, everything it represents is truly extraordinary, inspired by our own Space Coast and some of the iconic women in history. As a club that strives to break down barriers every day, we are proud to celebrate the women, both on our Orlando Pride team and beyond, who do the same, ”said Alex Leitão, CEO Orlando City SC and Orlando Pride. “Thanks to the dedication of our team and the support of our Orlando Health partners, we are thrilled to truly ‘shoot for the stars’ in our unveiling of this kit and to continue to invest in women’s football, including the launch of this jersey. We hope our fans like it as much as we do.

Former Lion recommended to Besiktas by his Canadian teammate

Former Orlando City midfielder turned Toronto full-back Richie Laryea was recommended to Besiktas by his Canadian teammate Atiba Hutchinson. The 26-year-old has so impressed the veteran of the Canadian camp that the latter thinks the Turkish club should try to sign him.

“According to Turkish newspaper A Spor, Hutchinson, 38, recommended the full-back to his club Besiktas, although no offer has been formally extended to Toronto fc. Laryea is apparently pushed to replace right-back Valentin Rosier, who is currently on loan from CP Sportif.

Laryea has been fantastic with Toronto since arriving from Orlando and changing roles under former Reds coach Greg Vanney. It will be fascinating to see if the Canadian side plans to sell the fan favorite.

Paul Arriola ends loan with Swansea City earlier

A Quadriceps injury ended Paul Arriola’s loan with Swansea City early. The injury will take him out for four to six weeks, which is the rest of Swansea’s season. Considering the seriousness of the issue, the only way the player could participate again for the Welsh side would be if the club made a playoff run.

“Arriola’s loan started on February 1 and he made his debut in a 3-1 England Cup loss at Manchester city, playing 26 minutes and getting involved on Swansea’s only goal. From there, however, he only played twice more, totaling 18 minutes in the league. Swansea would initially need more competition and depth for his wings – Arriola’s natural stance – but the 26-year-old USMNT the regular appears to have played most of his minutes there as part of an advanced match.

The defender’s time in the league has not gone as well as he would have liked. The USMNT player could be eligible to play against Orlando City on May 16 if all goes according to plan in his recovery.
