Prep basketball roundup: Oliverson 3 at buzzer gives Ogden boys victory at South Summit | News, Sports, Jobs

KAMAS — Jace Oliverson hit a 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer to give Ogden High boys basketball a dramatic 61-58 overtime win at South Summit on Friday night.

Oliverson led the Tigers (7-6, 1-1 Region 13) with 15 points on five 3-pointers.

Assisting the game-winning shot, Alex Howard, scored 14 points for Ogden. Kohl Gil scored 14 points for the Tigers, Landen Smith had nine and Ozzy Norton added eight.

DAVIS 49, WEBER 45

KAYSVILLE — Weber led 23-20 at halftime, but Davis controlled the second half to go undefeated in regional play.

Rex Sunderland led all scorers with 15 points for Davis (15-0, 4-0 Region 1). Colby Sims had 10 points with two 3-pointers, seven rebounds and four assists. Maxwell Painter also scored 10 points.

Cannon DeVries and Griffyn Doughty each scored 13 points for Weber (7-7, 3-1). Stockton Short had seven rebounds and DeVries had four assists.

CLEARFIELD 38, SYRACUSE 35

CLEARFIELD – Syracuse led 6-2 after one quarter, but Clearfield won the fourth quarter 12-8 for the victory.

Dawson Gardner led all scorers with 13 points for Clearfield (3-9, 2-1 Region 1). Peyton Kotter scored eight points while Austin Mitchell and Lincoln Church each added seven.

Brevin Hamblin led Syracuse (3-9, 0-3) with nine points. Brock Williams, Kaden Ericksen and Carter Semrow each scored eight points.

SCHEDULE CHANGES

Layton at Fremont has been rescheduled for Saturday, Jan. 22 due to COVID-19 concerns at Layton.

Bountiful at Viewmont has been rescheduled to Tuesday, February 1 due to COVID-19 concerns at Viewmont.

Hunter at Roy has been rescheduled to Wednesday, February 9. The game was postponed due to Thursday’s shooting in West Valley City that left two Hunter High students dead, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.

American Prep-West Valley in St. Joseph has been rescheduled to Tuesday, Jan. 18 due to COVID-19 concerns in St. Joseph. SJC’s next game on Saturday January 15 against American Heritage has also been postponed, as has the previously scheduled game on Tuesday January 18 against Waterford.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

FREMONT 88, LAYTON 44

LAYTON – Maggie Mendleson scored 27 points to help Fremont pass Layton.

Timea Gardner added 19 points with two 3-pointers for Fremont (12-2, 3-0 Region 1). Mia Austin hit three treys on her way to 17 points.

Lauryn Hall led Layton (5-8, 1-3) with 16 points on four 3-pointers. Jayden Seegmiller scored 14 points.

DAVIS 42, WEBER 20

PLEASANT VIEW — Davis held Weber to 10 points in each half in a road win in the region.

Kendra Kitchen scored a game-high 11 points for Davis (12-1, 4-0 Region 1). Taylor Leavitt had 10 points while Sierra Passey and Kylee Mabry scored eight each.

Katelynn Butler led Weber (4-9, 1-3) with 10 points and Jazmyn Bennett added five.

SYRACUSE 58, CLEARFIELD 27

SYRACUSE – Syracuse led 29-9 at halftime in a regional win over Clearfield.

Whitney Sorenson led Syracuse (11-2, 2-1 Region 1) with 10 points. Avery Sanders scored nine and Gracie Sorenson added seven.

Miranda Mansfield led all scorers with 14 points for Clearfield (0-12, 0-3). Brooklyn Hawks scored eight points.

One of those games, originally scheduled for Jan. 13 against American Prep-West Valley, was rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 7.
