Rupture: large-scale fire in Ogden burns houses, construction site; force evacuations

OGDEN, Utah, June 28, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) – Firefighters from several agencies are at the scene of a massive fire in Ogden that burned houses and an apartment complex under construction on 28th Street between Grant Avenue and Washington Boulevard.

According to a tweet posted at 11:23 p.m. on Monday by the Ogden Fire Department, “Crews are aggressively mitigating an apartment complex under construction and several houses currently on fire.”

Social media posts show frightened neighbors reacting to a towering wall of flames as crowds of first responders flock to the area.

A number of nearby residences have been evacuated and others are on standby.

Witnesses told Gephardt Daily that the fire started at sunset. Up to seven residences were involved in the blaze, according to unconfirmed information.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The blaze was the second in 24 hours in the region. Teams fought a blaze on Monday morning in an area southeast of the evening blaze.
