Utah Governor Spencer Cox has appointed Christopher Bramwell as the senior privacy officer for the Department of Government Operations.
According to a statement from the governor’s office, the Utah legislature created the role in its last legislative session to protect residents’ personal data.
As the Privacy Officer, Bramwell will be responsible for investigating and compiling information on the privacy practices of state agencies in order to discern what poses a risk to the privacy of individuals. He will also work with the Privacy Oversight Commission and the state’s privacy officer to provide reports and recommendations on government privacy practices.
Prior to his new role, Bramwell was director of privacy and information security for the Utah Department of Social Services. During this time, he and his team led the creation and management of information privacy, security and compliance programs.
Prior to that he worked for the Utah Department of Technology Services as an Information Security Analyst and for the United States Department of Homeland Security as an Information Technology Specialist. .
