Utah State track meet ends at Beach Invitational

LONG BEACH, Calif. — Utah State Athletics wrapped up competition at the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State University on Saturday.

Aggies’ efforts in Long Beach were praised by seniors Maia Garren and Anna Parkinson. In the shot put, Garren improved his personal best with a throw of 16.48 meters (54-1.00). Garren’s mark remains the third best all-time in Utah State history in this event. Garren only drags the marks of Brenn Flint (16.82 metres) and Olivia Moriconi (16.53 metres), both set in 2018. Also competing in hammer and discus, Garren recorded finishes of 23rd and 51st, respectively, with marks of 53.52 meters (175-7) and 42.71 meters (140 -1).

In the women’s pole vault, Parkinson cracked the all-time top 10 at USU, clearing a height of 3.76 meters (12-4.00) to place second in the event. Parkinson joins the second year Maren Garnett as the only current Aggie pole vaulters to place in the event’s top 10 at USU.

Junior Dominique Bentil was responsible for Utah State’s last top five finish in the competition. The Draper, Utah sprinter placed third in the men’s 200 meters with a time of 21.19.

Second year Olivia Smith narrowly missed his own top five in the 400-meter hurdles, placing sixth in the event with a time of 1:00.52, just five hundredths of a second off fifth place.

Utah State Athletics is set to continue the outdoor season next weekend at the BYU-hosted Robison Invitational. The competition is scheduled for Friday through Saturday, April 22-23, in Provo, Utah.
